What we collect
- Account details — your email address and a password, or a Sign in with Apple or Google account. We also record your confirmation that you're an adult and agree to our conduct rules.
- Your date of birth — to confirm you're 18 or over and to show your age to people you're introduced to.
- Your gender, and who you'd like to meet — see the section below; we treat this carefully.
- Your approximate location — see the section below; we store it deliberately roughly.
- Your profile — your first name, photos, a short intro, and the interests and details you choose to add. You decide what to share and can edit or remove any of it at any time. We also collect a last name, which stays private and is used only so people who already know you can find you by searching their full name.
- Introductions & messages — the introductions you send or receive and the messages you exchange. Messages are visible to you and the person you're talking with.
- Events — the events you host or join (you join with a code from the host). An event's location is a place the host enters, not your device location. If a host charges entry, the payment is handled by our payment provider; we don't store your card details.
- Basic device & usage data — a push-notification token, so we can tell you about new introductions and messages, and standard technical information needed to run the app reliably.
Gender and who you'd like to meet
Matching you with the right people means knowing your gender and who you're hoping to meet. Together, those two answers can reveal your sexual orientation, which the law in many places treats as sensitive personal information — so we want to be exact about how it's handled.
- We use it only to decide who to introduce you to. It is never used for advertising, and we never sell it.
- Matching is mutual: we only introduce two people when each one's answer fits the other's.
- Your gender is shown to people you're introduced to. Who you'd like to meet is not shown to anyone.
- You can change either answer at any time in Settings, and deleting your account deletes both.
By entering these answers you consent to us using them this way. If you'd rather not provide them, the app can't introduce you to anyone, because there'd be no basis for a match.
Location
Fall For introduces you to people within a distance you choose, so we need a rough idea of where you are. We've designed this to give away as little as possible:
- We ask your device for a coarse, city-level position — not a precise fix — and only while you're using the app.
- Before storing it, the server rounds it to about a kilometre. We never hold your street address or an exact point.
- No one else's phone ever receives a coordinate, or even an exact distance. Other members see only a band, like "under 5 miles." This is deliberate: precise distances from several points can be combined to work out where someone lives, and a band can't be used that way.
- You can decline the location permission or turn it off in your device settings at any time. Introductions will then not be distance-filtered.
What we do not collect
- We don't sell your personal information.
- We don't track your precise location, and we don't track you in the background.
- We don't use your microphone or record audio.
- We don't show ads, and we don't share your data with advertisers.
How we use it
- To introduce you to people you might genuinely like, and to write openers worth answering.
- To deliver your messages and notify you about introductions and replies.
- To run events you host or join, and to introduce you to people who are there.
- To keep people safe — reviewing flagged messages, screening photos, enforcing our guidelines, and acting on blocks and reports.
Who can see your information
People you're introduced to can see your first name, age, photos, your intro, the interests you've chosen to show, and roughly how far away you are. They cannot see your last name, your email, who you'd like to meet, or where you are. We share information with service providers who help us run the app — hosting, push-notification delivery, and the AI providers named below — only as far as they need it to provide the service, and we may disclose information if the law requires it or to protect someone's safety.
Keeping people safe
To protect people from scams, harassment, and abuse, we use automated tools and, where something is flagged, human review, to check messages sent through Fall For. Flagged messages may be reviewed by our team and kept as needed to investigate, enforce our Community Guidelines, and comply with the law. Accounts that break the rules may be warned, suspended, or removed; a suspended person can appeal from inside the app. This processing is necessary to operate a safe service.
AI and automated processing
Some features use AI, run by providers that process content on our behalf and never for their own advertising:
- Safety — messages are screened for scams, harassment, and abuse, and every photo is screened for explicit content before it can appear. This uses Anthropic (text) and Google Cloud Vision (images).
- Better introductions — when you add an interest in your own words, we use Anthropic to match it to a topic so we can introduce you well. Your own wording stays on your profile.
No automated decision is made about you that has a legal or similarly significant effect. Who you're introduced to is a suggestion, and both people decide for themselves.
Learning from your messages (optional)
You can choose to let Fall For suggest profile interests based on things you say about yourself in your own messages. This is off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off any time in Settings. When it's on we look only at your own messages — never the other person's — we skip anything sensitive, and nothing is added to your profile without your explicit confirmation.
Meeting people in real life
Fall For can lead to meeting someone in person — at an event, or because the two of you arranged it. Meeting anyone new carries risk. We provide safety tools and we screen what we can, but we don't run background checks and we can't guarantee anyone's identity or conduct. Meet in public the first time, tell someone where you'll be, and trust your instincts — see our Community Guidelines.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information while your account exists. Deleting your account removes your profile, your photos, your gender and matching answers, and your location from the app. We may keep a limited record of a safety report or a suspension for as long as needed to stop someone returning, and anything the law requires us to retain.
